Very sad news!

Our news is about as bad as it can be....

The melanoma has spread just about everywhere. There are spots on both hips, one lung, under one arm, in his rib cage, all across his upper chest, in his lower spine. I can’t remember if Pat told me more. He is already classified as “Stage 4”.

No surgery will be done, because it is in too many places. They are going to do radiation what was left of the tumor on his spine.

His doctors trained at M D Anderson in Houston, TX, so they have contacts there. They are going to try to get him in a clinical trial at NCI (National Cancer Institute) in Washington D.C. or at M D Anderson.

The doctor who referred Earl (my husband) to Fox Chase in Philadelphia had told Earl about NCI day before yesterday. We had already relayed this info to Pat & Thomas.

Pat said she feels confident that his doctors will do everything possible that they can do for him. They talked about NCI being their preference.

An MRI will be done on his brain. It will be more detailed. There is no cancer in any of his major organs at this time.

Please keep Thomas and the whole family in your prayers. They will have to be making so many major decisions about so many things.

I hope I have not mis-stated anything. Pat, please correct any errors.

With so much love and so much pain in my heart,

Lillian
